Poll: Most suspect Santa Claus is a Democrat
It appears that President Obama might not be the only Democrat known for giving away "gifts."
A new poll by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling found that 44 percent of people in the United States believe that Santa Claus is a Democrat, versus just 28 who say St. Nick would cast his ballot for the GOP. An identical 28 percent say they're not sure of Santa's political affiliation.
But despite believing that Santa is likely an Obama supporter, voters are more likely to believe that Mitt Romney is on the nice list. Some 63 percent of those surveyed said the former Republican nominee would get gifts this year, while 37 percent predicted a lump of coal in his stocking.
The poll also found that a plurality of Americans — 47 percent — believe that there is a war on Christmas intended to secularize the holiday season. Four in 10 Americans say no such effort exists.
The poll, released Monday, included a sample of 36 percent Democrats, 36 percent Republicans, and 28 percent independents. The majority — 68 percent — identified as Christian, and 87 percent said they would be celebrating Christmas. The margin of error for the poll was 4.4 percent.
