First dog Bo sat on her lap in front of a Christmas tree next to a man dressed as Santa Claus as she read the famous children’s poem. Visiting the children's hospital has been a tradition for first ladies dating back to the 1950s.

The Obamas are vacationing in Hawaii, where the president worked out and played a round of golf on Monday morning with friends Mike Ramos, Greg Orme and Bobby Titcomb, according to a White House pool report.

The first lady spoke to children as part of NORAD's Santa-tracking project for about 30 minutes on Monday, according to a White House official.
