Crapo faces DUI hearing on Friday
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) faces a hearing in a Virginia court Friday on a DUI charge, according to The Associated Press.
Crapo was arrested after he ran a red light in Northern Virginia over the Christmas holiday. Police have said that the senator initially register a blood alcohol level of 0.11 percent when he was pulled over in Alexandria; a subsequent test performed about an hour after his arrest registered an 0.14 percent BAC.
The Mormon lawmaker has previously said through a spokesman that he did not plan to contest the charges. Under Virginia law, a first DUI offense typically carries a small fine and driver's license suspension. Crapo's blood alcohol level was below that which automatically mandates jail time.
“I made a mistake for which I apologize to my family, my Idaho constituents and any others who have put their trust in me,” he said. “I accept total responsibility and will deal with whatever penalty comes my way in this matter.
