Philadelphia mayor calls Rubio's gun views 'irresponsible'
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter on Wednesday slammed Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) for saying he'll oppose President Obama's "attempts to undermine" the Second Amendment.
"The senator is wrong," Nutter told reporters at the White House on Wednesday, after Obama spoke about his gun-control proposal. The mayor added that Obama specifically addressed 2nd Amendment concerns in his speech on the gun-control debate Wednesday.
Nutter's comments on Rubio came after the Florida senator released a statement saying that nothing Obama proposed on Wednesday would have prevented the Newtown shooting last month.
"President Obama is targeting the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens instead of seriously addressing the real underlying causes of such violence," Rubio said. "Rolling back responsible citizens’ rights is not the proper response to tragedies committed by criminals and the mentally ill."
