Obama, first lady privately host donors at White House

President Obama and the first lady Michelle Obama held a brunch and reception for donors at the White House on Friday.

“As is commonplace with past administration[s] of both parties, the president and first lady today hosted friends and supporters at the White House in advance of the president’s inauguration weekend,” a White House official said, as reported in a White House press pool report.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) funded the events, including a brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and a reception from 2:30 to 5 p.m., which were not on the president’s public schedule. The guest list has not been released. Invitations were likely based on donors’ level of contribution to the committee, similar to access to other inaugural events.

The president's schedule is very full for the weekend. He will be privately sworn in for his second term on Sunday, followed by a public ceremony on Monday.
