Carney unimpressed by Blackburn's skeet shooting challenge
White House press secretary Jay Carney did not appear impressed by Rep. Marsha Blackburn's (R-Tenn.) offer of a skeet shooting challenge to President Obama.
Carney was asked during Wednesday's press briefing if he had any response to the Tennessee lawmaker, who questioned Obama's claim in an interview over the weekend that he regularly practiced at Camp David's shooting range.
"I have none," Carney said dryly, before quickly moving to a different question.
Obama has called for universal background checks, a renewed assault-weapons ban, and limits on magazine capacity in the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., elementary school shooting that left 20 children and six staff members dead.
Blackburn, asked about the president's claim, told CNN on Tuesday she was skeptical the president actually practiced shooting.
“If he’s a skeet shooter, why have we not heard of this? Why have we not seen photos? Why hasn’t he referenced this at any point in time?” Blackburn said.
The lawmaker then said the president "should invite me to Camp David, and I’ll go skeet shooting with him and I bet I’ll beat him."
Asked Monday why there were no pictures of the president shooting at Camp David, the press secretary said said Obama went to the retreat "to spend time with his family and friends and relax, not to produce photographs.”
