DNC chief tapped for ambassador to South Africa

President Obama is close to tapping former White House political director and Democratic National Committee executive director Patrick Gaspard as the next U.S. ambassador to South Africa, The Washington Post is reporting.

While in the Obama administration, Gaspard, a Haitian American, spearheaded U.S. relief efforts after an earthquake ravaged Haiti in 2010.

Gaspard previously worked as a labor organizer for the Service Employees International Union and was involved in anti-apartheid efforts in the 1980s and 1990s, according to the Post.
