"Great pick," the onetime Trump rival tweeted, calling Pence "rock solid."

Republicans largely rooted for Trump to pick Pence as his running mate. Other finalists were New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.).
Pence, a former House member, fulfills Trump's stated desire for a VP pick with political experience who could work with Republicans on Capitol Hill to get legislation passed.
Trump has a rocky relationship with some Republicans, who remain reluctant to back the businessman.
