Ty Carroll Mitchum, a 59-year-old from Clearwater, Florida, was arrested at the West Front of the Capitol on Sunday afternoon by Capitol Police, according to a statement from the police.

After a preliminary interview where Mitchum said he had firearms in his car police searched the vehicle where they found "three firearms and several rounds of ammunition," according to Capitol Police Officer Shennell Antrobus.

The guns were a shotgun, a revolver, and nine millimeter handgun.

Antrobus did not say why Mitchum was carrying the guns or ammunition.

Mitchum was arrested and taken to the Capitol Police headquarters for processing. He was charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of unregistered ammunition.

The firearms were a revolver, shotgun and 9mm handgun.
