The West Wing of the White House was briefly evacuated on Saturday morning when a smoke odor was reported.

A White House official says an electrical transformer malfunctioned just after 7 a.m., setting off a smoke alarm.

The problem was quickly resolved, the official added, allowing personnel to reenter the West Wing.

The first family “was unaffected,” the official said.
