On Thursday, the first lady and Dr. Jill Biden held a Mother’s Day Tea event at the White House to honor the nation’s military mothers.

Obama and Biden helped children from military families create their own Mother’s Day cards and then joined them as they presented those cards to their parents. They held a similar event last year.

The event for military moms was the latest in Obama and Biden’s Joining Forces initiative, which aims to help military families and returning veterans.

A “special guest” also joined the 170 military mothers and children at the event, Prince Harry, who stopped at the White House on the first day of a weeklong tour of the U.S.

The first lady praised his work with military families and his service in Afghanistan.
