Dole said that the decision on whether to run for office is a difficult one.

"Of course, it’s a very personal decision, having been through that myself. It’s something that she will have to decide," Dole said.

The former senator was noncommittal when asked about potential Republican presidential candidates, saying there were many "excellent" and "capable people in the party."

Former Sen. Bob Dole gained attention earlier this year when he lamented the lack of collegiality in the U.S. Senate and said there was no place for centrists such as himself in the modern-day GOP.

"Reagan couldn’t have made it. Certainly, Nixon couldn’t have made it, because he had ideas. We might have made it, but I doubt it,” Dole said in an interview with Fox News.
