The calls, by Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, are in response to Montgomery County GOP Chairman Jim Allen criticizing Republican Erika Harold, who is challenging Davis in Illinois's 13th District. Harold was the 2003 Miss America.

"Now, miss queen is being used like a street walker and her pimps are the DEMOCRAT PARTY and RINO REPUBLICANS," Allen reportedly wrote in an email obtained by The Chicago Sun-Times.

On Thursday, Priebus released a statement titled "RNC Chairman Calls for Resignation of Jim Allen."

"The astonishingly offensive views expressed by Chairman Allen have absolutely no place among the leaders of our party at any level," the statement reads. "His behavior is inexcusable and must not be tolerated. He should apologize to Erika Harold and resign immediately."

Davis called the statement "inappropriate, appalling and incredibly demeaning to Ms. Harold."

"It is imperative that as Republicans we work together instead of tearing each other down," Davis said according to the Chicago newspaper. "We aren't going to agree on everything but we must stop the infighting and focus on building a strong party."
