Trent Lott recovering from ruptured appendix

A former staffer said the appendix was successfully removed and Lott is recuperating.

Lott served in both the House and Senate before retiring in 2007. Once the leader of Senate Republicans, he resigned his post in 2002 after making remarks at then-Sen. Strom Thurmond’s birthday party that suggested he supported Thurmond’s 1948 segregationist presidential campaign.

Lott is currently working with the consulting and lobbying firm Breaux Lott Leadership Group, a subsidiary of the elite Washington, D.C., law firm Patton Boggs.
