San Diego mayor leaves sex addiction therapy early

Embattled San Diego Mayor Bob Filner on Friday left therapy sex addiction therapy more than a week early.

Filner’s chief of staff Lee Burdick told 10News that the mayor began his therapy a week earlier than planned due to “intense media coverage,” and as a result had been able to complete the program ahead of schedule. He refused to say when exactly Filner would return to his job as mayor.

At a late July press conference, Filner said that he would undergo two weeks of full-time therapy for sex addiction starting on August 5. Based on that schedule, Filner was only supposed to return to work on August 19.

Filner, who has been accused by over two dozen women of sexual harassment, has defied repeated calls for his resignation from fellow Democrats, including a recent open letter from Senator Barbara Boxer (Calif.).
