Report: CIA gathered records on Noam Chomsky

The records request also indicates that the CIA file was later destroyed — a move that one public records expert cited by the magazine suggested might have run afoul of federal law requiring agencies obtain advance approval before destroying documents. 

Chomsky told Foreign Policy he was not surprised by the revelation.

"Some day it will be realized that systems of power typically try to extend their power in any way they can think of," he said.
