“We cannot reassure voters that a vote for a Democrat is a vote for a champion for women unless Democrats walk our talk on equality and take firm action in accordance with our values and stand up for women by condemning his behavior and calling on him to immediately resign as Mayor of San Diego,” the resolution reads in part.

The DNC will reportedly vote on the measure this week at its summer meeting in Phoenix.

Some high-profile Democrats, including Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.), the chairwoman of the DNC, and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), who was Speaker when Filner was in Congress, have already called for him to step down.

At least 16 women, including city employees, have come forward to accuse Filner of sexual harassment. He denies the allegations, but earlier this month completed a two-week intensive therapy session for sex addiction.

Filner has returned to San Diego, where a recall effort is underway, but has not returned to City Hall. Reports from local news outlets said the mayor may be in the process negotiating a potential resignation agreement.
