Booker exchanged Twitter messages with Portland stripper

New Jersey Senate candidate and Newark Mayor Cory Booker (D) exchanged flirtatious messages on Twitter earlier this year with a stripper in Oregon.

Booker tweeted and direct messaged with Lynsie Lee, according to BuzzFeed, which broke the story late Wednesday afternoon. Lee reportedly works as a stripper at a vegan strip club in Portland, Ore.

The news organization posted screenshots of their flirtatious interactions on the social network from February and March of this year.

Booker, who’s single, is running to fill the New Jersey Senate seat left vacant by the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D).

Booker and Lee, the report points out, became friends after both appearing in the film “Follow Friday,” which was posted on YouTube months ago.

Lee tweeted in March “will you be at the #ffthefilm premier? :),” to which Booker responded “I have a diner but I’m going to try and go late.”

That same day, Booker tweeted about being president of his state’s Star Trek club. “If you’re ever POTUS I call dibs on First Lady,” Lee tweeted back.

A few weeks earlier, Booker direct messaged Lee privately, and said “And the East Coast loves you and by the East Coast, I mean me.”

“Well now I’m blushing :),” Lee said. “It’s only fair,” Booker replied.

His campaign spokesperson downplayed the pair’s relationship.

“I think it’s pretty well known that the mayor talks with people from all walks of life on Twitter,” Kevin Griffis told Buzzfeed. “There have been a couple of stories about that over the years. Really, the most shocking part of this story was learning there is a vegan strip club in Portland.”

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) lost his bid for mayor of New York City earlier this month after revelations he exchanged sexually explicit messages and photos with a young woman.

The special election between Booker and his Republican challenger, Steve Lonegan, is just a few weeks away on Oct. 16.

A new Quinnipiac poll released Tuesday showed their race has narrowed after Booker held a big lead for a while. The poll showed Booker leads Lonegan 53 percent to 41 percent.
