Among the entities Congress finished below were the IRS (33 percent chose Congress, while 42 percent chose the IRS), cockroaches (42-44), hemorrhoids (15-46), and witches (32-46).
Congress did, however, win battles against former Congressman and New York mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner (whom it beat 50 percent to 23 percent), cult leader and murderer Charles Manson (56-18), Syria (51-22), and heroin (53-24).
Overall, Congress prevailed in 10 of the matchups while losing in 14 of them.
Partisan gaps existed on several items. Republicans preferred Congress to the IRS, while Democrats differed from Republicans in preferring controversial celebrities Lindsey Lohan and Honey Boo Boo to Congress.
The poll surveyed 502 registered voters from Oct. 4-6, 2013 and had a margin of error plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
