An armed man was taken down by Paris police Monday after a car crashed into a police van on the Champs-Elysees, according to CNN.

The vehicle burst into flames after the crash, and the suspect may be dead, according to France’s interior minister Pierre-Henry Brandet.

The Paris prosecutor’s office is opening an anti-terror investigation into the incident.

French authorities told people to avoid the area, which is a popular attraction for tourists.

The attack follows a slew of terror attacks in the U.K. and Europe. It comes one day after a van ran down pedestrians in a north London neighborhood on Sunday night.

A man shot and killed a police officer and wounded two others on the Champs-Elysees in April. Police shot and killed the man as he tried to escape.
