Poll: More vets identify as Republican than general public

I know Memorial Day is not and should not be political, but Gallup just put out some interesting numbers on the partisanship of veterans.

According to its latest survey, veterans and those in active duty in the military of every age are more Republican than non-veterans. Check out this chart:

Notably, 34 percent of veterans and those in active service surveyed said they were Republican, only one percent more than those that identified as independent. Twenty-nine percent of veterans and active service members said they are Democrats.

That stands in contrast to non-veterans, 38 percent of which identified as Democrats.

There was a margin of error of plus or minus 1 percent in the poll.
