Former Sen. John Glenn (D-Ohio) returned to the Senate Wednesday and said he was happy with the election results that gave Democrats the presidency and a larger majority in the Senate.

"It was great the way it all came out," said Glenn, a senator from December 1974 to January 1999 who was having lunch with a friend.

"We need to change direction in this country. We've got a lot of problems. We have problems with foreign policy, and nothing is bigger right now than our problems with the economy. Everything else the country would like to work on depends on having a good economy and having money to do Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid. So it's a time period when we need a change of direction. Our international relations have never lower than they are now."

Glenn campaigned for President-elect Barack Obama in Ohio this fall. Obama won the state.
