McCain contacted Schilling about Senate run
Former Red Sox ace pitcher Curt Schilling has been on the fence about whether or not he will run for the late Sen. Ted Kennedy's (D-Mass.) seat.
But one high-profile Senate Republican pushed the former Major Leaguer hurler to run.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) contacted Schilling about his potential candidacy, according to CNN.
Brooke Buchanan, a McCain spokesperson, said on Tuesday that McCain reached out to Schilling to urge him to enter the campaign.
Schilling endorsed McCain as a presidential candidate early in the campaign in 2007. He later appeared at a rally for the Arizona Republican in New Hampshire.
CNN reported that McCain initiated the conversation about Schilling's possible run.
As a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Schilling did McCain another favor by helping win a World Series for his hometown team in 2001.
Schilling, who is a registered independent who leans Republican, has indicated interest in Kennedy's seat, but has not made an official declaration. In possible preparation for a run, he has posted some of his policy beliefs on his blog.
