Grassley reportedly unhappy with Baucus' health proposal
Sources close to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) told CNN today that the ranking member on the Senate Finance Committee already has a number of qualms with the health care reform proposal floated Tuesday by Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), the committee's chair.
Chief among Grassley's objections seems to be the fees Baucus hopes to levy on insurance companies. The Iowa senator also dislikes the bill's expected price tag of $900 billion -- about $100 billion higher than what Grassley wanted.
Nevertheless, Baucus will present his proposal to the Gang of Six later this afternoon. He is expected to decide whether to introduce the bill to his committee with or without bipartisan support before the president speaks to Congress on Wednesday night, CNN reported.
