Corzine closing in on Christie in new poll
New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine (D) still trails Republican challenger Chris Christie by three points, but the incumbent is now polling within the margin of error, a new poll finds.
The survey, conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research right before Labor Day, shows Christie leading Corzine 41 percent to 38 percent. However, that number -- while not exactly the best news -- is significant for the New Jersey incumbent. Previous polls have depicted Corzine trailing Christie by as much as double digits, but these latest figures -- with a margin of error higher than Christie's lead -- perhaps indicate the race is tightening.
Thursday's poll also spells good news for the state's Democrats: The party holds a general 8-point edge in down-ballot races. Eighteen percent of respondents, however, said they were not sure whether they would select Democrats or Republicans in 2010.
