Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) reaffirmed the vice president's prediction last week that Congress could pass healthcare reform before Thanksgiving.
"We’re closer to victory now than we have ever been… failure to pass healthcare reform this year would make things overwhelmingly worse," Durbin told NBC's "Meet the Press." "I believe we can [meet that deadline], and I hope we’ll have Republican support to do it."
Durbin's optimism was echoed earlier this week by his boss, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who told reporters the Senate could even vote on a bill before the November holiday.
"I hope we can get it done well before Thanksgiving, but [Vice President] Biden has spent more time in the Senate than I have," Reid said. "But I think we -- we hope we can beat the Thanksgiving date."
