Fox anchor lashes out at White House for Sunday snub

By Michael O'Brien - 09/19/09 10:38 AM ET

"Fox News Sunday" anchor Chris Wallace lashed out at the White House Friday night, calling them "crybabies" for opting to go on every Sunday show but his.

Wallace, appearing on "The O'Reilly Factor" last night, openly complained about a perceived sensitivity in the Obama administration to negative coverage.

"These guys, everything is personal," Wallace said. “They are the biggest bunch of crybabies I have dealt with in my 30 years in Washington.”

Fox has found itself in a bit of a combative spot this week, being snubbed by the White House and drawing the ire of competitors after Fox ran a newspaper ad claiming that they were the only TV news outlet to cover last weekend's conservative protests in Washington.

Wallace compared the current relationship between Fox and the Obama White House to his years covering the Reagan administration for NBC.

"You came in the next day, and they always treated you professionally, and I think it came from the top down -- the old man," he said.

I watched Chris Wallace last night on O'Reilly and I can tell you he was very professional in his statement on being snubbed by the Obama gang… My personal opinion is that with Obama snubbing Fox , it is snubbing me and many others who watch them. Just goes to prove what David Axelrod stated last week, the Obama administration doesnt think those of us that oppose Big Govt a threat to their administration. Well Mr. Axelrod I hope we prove you wrong!! I will be one that will not watch any of Obama's speeches tomorrow and have boycotted David Letterman for a long time so no prob there.BY Debi on 09/19/2009 at 13:18
I agree with Debi, this is fairly disappointing. Pres Obama talks about bipartisanship, about learning and finding agreement within disagreements, but then snubs his nose at what is one of the major news networks. Actions speak louder than words, Mr. President!!BY Mark on 09/19/2009 at 13:45
Yes, Fox was snubbed by Obama this weekend. Hey that is life in politics. But when listeing to Chris Wallace, he was talking about Obama and his people in their not dealing with negative comments/articles. I did not take Wallace's comments as complaining about being snubbed…just the Obama and his people can't take anything negative. From prior commentary from Obama and his people, Wallace's opinion isn't any big surprise. I truley thought Obama was going to be a president who would unify our country…but he has become one of the most partisan presidents I have witnessed in my lifetime. So Chris Wallace's opinions are more than realistic.BY debby on 09/19/2009 at 13:49
Let's get real. Fox is NOT a news network, its a right wing propaganda machine and has been for years. Those who are avid Fox watchers happen to be the least informed, and that's not a coincident.I'm glad Fox has been snubbed, and I hope more of the same is coming their way.BY Basil on 09/19/2009 at 14:26
The POTUS is suppose to be uniting Americans, not dividing them. To snub FOX means that his plan is to isolate a large percentage of Americans. It's not a sign of good leadership.Alos, I just read a new, underground book that's great!! It's about a small town in American who finally stands up to federal tyranny. It's about what is coming in the nxt 3.5 years in America how each of us need to now "make our own history leave our own legacy for our grandchildren". I bought 2 for some friends so they can see what to do. Become an activist get in the streets away from the TV. Read it…(www.booksbyoliver.com)BY SilverFox on 09/19/2009 at 14:48
Basil,Wow! really? The 'least informed'?I'm sure your news source kept you up to date on Van Jones and Acorn. To be fair, I suppose if you are fed a steady diet of the leftist agenda any news source that would give you both sides would seem 'Right'.Good luck with that!BY Jim on 09/19/2009 at 15:08
When you watch O'Reilly and Beck proclaim balance while they display grossly negative tunnel vision you may wonder why the Obama administration doesn't object. It may be because Fox did nearly the same thing with the previous administration. "Everything's wrong and nothing ain't right", and it was the same way then. They use Rush Limbaugh as "the straw that gags the opposition".They hounded former Pres. George W. with the same pleasant, logical, negative viciousness that they use on the current administration. The only breather that former Pres. George W. got was when O'Reilly and Beck were yakkin' pure conservative philosophy. When the opposition grows, Beck and O'Reilly call what they do "commentary". When the opposition shrinks, Beck and O'Reilly call it "facts" or "news". It's really their selfish, egotistical, negative opinions, we listen too and little else.honestly,S. Jim, yes, i stand by my comment, least informed. I don't have Fox news and conservative obsession with Acorn and Jones. Neither do I think that Beck is actually sane, let alone someone whose opinion i should respect.I get my news from NPR and PBS. At least its not shout TV and years ahead of commercial news outlets in intellectual honesty and true journalism.Take David Brooks for example, he represent the right in a very respectable and worthy manner, i might agree with him, i might not at times, but in the end he leads a civil discourse representing his side of the story. Something Fox and other shout TV talking heads are simply incapable of doing. So good luck with that? You bet.BY Basil on 09/19/2009 at 16:09
Defending Fox news is absurd. Where were all of you when they aired so you think you can dance instead of the president's speech? Would they have done that with W.? The worst president in the history of the U.S. Fox can't have it both ways.BY David on 09/19/2009 at 16:41
Well said David. Dancing with the Stars wasn't the first time they snubbed the President. Now they're getting snubbed and crying foul. Fox can't have it both ways indeed. It's bad enough they claim to be fair and balanced.BY Basil on 09/19/2009 at 17:11

"Punch will stun West," reads the headline above the fold on Drudge this Tuesday. The line refers to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent, vague promise this week to somehow "punch the arrogance" of the West on February 11. Also above the fold: A slew of weather-related links, including a report from the National Weather Service that predicts more snow for the already buried Capitol.… Read More »

"Healthcare theatrics" reads the banner atop The Huffington Post, which links to an AP story on the White House's struggle to bring GOP leaders to the table for a televised healthcare summit. The AP questions whether the event may have any utility outside of immediate personal politics. Below, reporter Sam Stein reports Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) plans to vote against the White House's nominee for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Craig Becker.… Read More »

Moe Lane this morning summarizes the latest back-and-forth between the White House and congressional GOP leaders over healthcare. The White House wants Republicans to join Democrats for a televised healthcare summit in the coming days, but GOP leaders do not want Democrats' bill to be the basis for those talks. Meanwhile, Brian Darling takes on NYT columnist Paul Krugman's latest piece, in which he rails on the filibuster (and the GOP's use of it). "He is clearly way outside of his area of expertise when talking about Senate procedure, because his analysis is laughable," Darling writes.… Read More »

Spencer Ackerman leads The Washington Independent this morning with a post about William Lietzau, a top Obama White House appointee first installed during President George W. Bush's tenure. Lietzau handled the military commissions the Supreme Court later found unconstitutional, and Ackerman reports that he will soon become Deputy Assistant Secretary for Detainee Affairs.Earlier, David Weigel shared Defense Secretary Robert Gates' thoughts on the passing of Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha (D). Noted Gates: "In our dealings over the years, Jack and I did not always agree, but I always respected his candor, and knew that he cared deeply about the men and women of America’s military and intelligence community." … Read More »
