Obama to meet with Brown after all
After reportedly turning down repeated requests for a meeting at the UN, President Obama will sit down with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown today for a bilteral meeting at the G20 summit.
British papers reported that the White House had "snubbed" Brown by turning down no less than five requests for a private meeting at the United Nations. Obama was reportedly miffed at how Brown had handled the release of Lockerbie Bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi.
But last night the White House announced the two world leaders will in fact sit down together, just before the plenary session of the G20 in Pittsburgh.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs dismissed claims that Obama had "snubbed" brown, criticizing the British media for sensationalizing the story.
"Stop reading those London tabloids," Gibbs told reporters.
