DSCC head: Biden was right; Obama's plans 'dead' if Dems lose
Vice President Joe Biden was right to say that the Obama administration's agenda would be "dead" if Democrats lose in 2010, the head of Senate Democrats' campaign efforts said Tuesday.
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) Chairman Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) concurred with the vice president's assessment last week.
"Vice President Biden is right. Republicans have made their priorities clear, and solving the nation's problems isn't high on the list," Menendez wrote in an email today to supporters. "President Obama's change agenda is dead if Democrats lose. That's a fact."
“If they take them back, this the end of the road for what Barack and I are trying to do,” Biden said of the GOP's gaming for the House and Senate in 2010.
Republicans have been energized as they have gained some footing on healthcare and deficit issues, reflected in boisterous August town halls and slipping public opinion in favor of some of President Barack Obama's priorities.
Still, Republicans are left to defend more open seats in 2010's Senate elections, though they have aggressively courted top-tier candidates in hopes of eating into Democrats' 60-vote majority in the upper chamber.
Menendez professed confidence in Democrats' campaign efforts in his solicitation for more money, saying that the DSCC must reach its $3 million quarterly target for donations.
"Falling short is not an option. The Republicans would seize on the news as evidence of weakness," he wrote. "We can't let that happen. We won't let that happen."
