Congressman: Pelosi should go after Grayson for remark

By Jordan Fabian - 09/30/09 09:04 AM ET

A Republican congressman on Thursday urged House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to organize a vote to reprimand Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) in a manner similar to the action taken against Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.)

Grayson caused controversy on the House floor Tuesday afternoon when he said that "the Republican healthcare plan is this: Die quickly."

Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) took to Twitter to call on Pelosi to officially rebuke Grayson:

Will Pelosi hold vote to reprimand #Grayson? http://bit.ly/4pGUWN Or was JWilson reprimand just partisan politics after all? #tcot

A couple of weeks ago, the House voted to condemn Wilson after he shouted, "You lie!" at President Barack Obama during his speech to a joint session of Congress on Sept. 9.

Several House Republicans chastised Grayson on the House floor after his comment.

Reprimand Grayson? Heck Nancy probably put him up to this. It would be like reprimanding herself and you know that won't happen. She's the cause of ALL of the partisanship currently infecting congress like a cancer!!BY Jimbo on 09/30/2009 at 11:03
Yeah..right after she does Rangel…BY Reality Check on 09/30/2009 at 11:52
Umm, the video clearly shows that Alan Grayson had the floor while speaking. As I remember, Barack Obama was granted the floor while Joe Wilson was yelling.I'm not quite sure on what grounds a reprimand would be in order?BY Capitol Shill on 09/30/2009 at 12:04
There is a big difference between calling the President a liar on the floor of the Congress when the rules of the body explicitly state that personal attacks on individuals are not allowed; and grossly exaggerating the policy goals of a political party when (as far as I know) there are no rules governing statements regarding another political party. Wilson was reprimanded for breaking the rules of the Congress.Put simply. Partisan zealotry is allowed. Rulebreaking is not allowed. Grayson is only a partisan zealot. Wilson is a partisan zealot who also broke the rules.BY Craig Cooper on 09/30/2009 at 12:04
Go Alan, I see turning the light of truth on the Republican's gives them great pain. They have no real plan and while doctors take an oath to "Do no harm" it has become obvious Republican's have decided to "Do no good". They are old, tired and weak now is the time to put an end to their sad little party.BY David on 09/30/2009 at 12:08
Craig, would you be so kind as to elucidate what rule was broken by Joe Wilson, other than that of castigating the "annointed one" (as you Libs see it)? If you have a reference cite, it would be much appreciated. Thanks…BY Reality Check on 09/30/2009 at 12:24
When are these people going to grow up? I am getting tired of this from both sides of the isle. According to Nancy Pelosi, if you disagree with her you are un-american. According to some Republicans, President Obama is trying to destroy the country.Hey Madam Speaker, set the standard for behavior, follow it your self. Then hold your people to that standard. And to the Minority dude from Va. Set a standard for behavior, follow it yourself. Then hold our people to that standard.Oh wait - that's already been done. Seems the standard of behavior that has been adopted is broke.BY Rob on 09/30/2009 at 12:24
Grayson is a looser. This is how he gets his 5 second of media attention. How did he make his millions of dollars? He is a Harvard Yankee trained Marxist and has come down to Florida to give some opium(false hope) to the poor masses of Orlando. There are no jobs and the economy is worst than last year. With Bush I had a job. I want this Bonzo out of office, pronto!BY Umatilla on 09/30/2009 at 12:48
Don't Apologize congressman that's essentially what the insurance industry wants anyway is for sick and old people to die quick instead of paying for a long recovery. The Republicans support the industry as well as some democrats in many ways this is a form of a corrupt system. So Congressman Grayson CARRY ON…BY Ed  on 09/30/2009 at 18:59

Drudge Report
Bannered across Drudge this morning is a question most of us in the Beltway have asked about the snow storm Friday: "When will it stop?" Below, Drudge links to an AP article on the recent trouble facing New York Gov. David Paterson (D), who many thought was about to be rocked by political scandal by a forthcoming story in The New York Times. That story hasn't arrived -- but speculation about its contents surely has -- leading Paterson to say he would depart office only as a result of the ballot box, or if he's carried out "in a box."… Read More »

"KEEP TRYING" -- That's the message one HuffPo writer took from the latest WaPo/ABC poll, which showed 63 percent of Americans still favored further action on healthcare reform. Additionally, Ryan Grim posts his recent interview with Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), who predicted his chamber's historic filibuster could "fall of its own weight -- it should fall of its own weight -- or it will fall after some massive conflict on the floor, which has happened in the past where there have been rulings from the chair that have led to reform."… Read More »
The Corner
The Corner's Mark Krikorian points out in a recent post that the private sector -- namely, the National Review -- was able to devise how many immigrants were residing within the United States faster than the U.S. government could produce that data. And offering further proof that former Gov. Sarah Palin's (R-Alaska) crib notes have become something of a political meme is Kathryn Jean Lopez, who notices a famous country singer penning notes on his hand.… Read More »
The Washington Independent
"The story of coals dirty, deadly legacy" headlines The Washington Independent this morning. The story relates the political significance, health effects and community impacts of a fossil fuel that reporter Mike Lillis believes has White House's clear embrace.Earlier, Lillis looked at one element of Democrats' forthcoming jobs bill: A proposed unemployment insurance extension. The bill offers jobless Americans an additional three months of aid -- less than what the White House's budget requests, but on par with the House's extention, passed late last year.… Read More »
Red State
Michael Steele's remark this week -- that he has been subject to intense criticism because of his race -- has earned the scorn of Red State's Eric Erickson, who lambasts the Republican National Committee chairman in a blog post published late Tuesday. "Actually, it could have nothing to do with race and everything to do with outsourcing the RNC to the same consultants who have been bleeding the RNC dry for years," he says of Steele's low popularity. "It could have something to do with management styles. It could have everything to do with the Chairman never meeting a shoe he didn’t want to eat."… Read More »
MyDD
Jonathan Singer on Wednesday explores the current state of President Barack Obama's judicial nominations. But with the help of Slate's Doug Kendall, he finds that the president has both nominated fewer and confirmed fewer judges to federal benches than his predecessor at this point in his presidency. Concludes Singer: "But with a real crisis in the judiciary in the form of dozens of vacancies, one has to wonder why this President has nominated fewer than half of the judges nominated by his predecessor."… Read More »
