Graham: Beck 'doesn't represent' the GOP

By Silla Brush - 10/04/09 08:37 AM ET

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday continued his attack on Fox News conservative commentator Glenn Beck, saying he "doesn't represent the Republican party."

Graham last week criticized the outspoken host and commentator, and said Beck is "aligned with cynicism." Graham made his comments on Thursday at an event organized by The Atlantic magazine.

On "Fox News Sunday," Graham said he does not watch or listen to Beck.

"I’m not saying he is bad for America," he said. "You can listen to him if you want to. I choose not to."

"He has a right to say what he wants to say, but at the end of the day it’s not the kind of political analysis I buy into," Graham said.

I don't believe Beck claims to represent the GOP. He educates by in depth research and let's the American people make their own decisions. The silent majority is silent no longer and are waking up to the fact that our Representatives no longer represent the average American and live in their own little world in Washington. It's all about them, the politicians, not the Country.BY G Smith on 10/04/2009 at 10:31
Glenn makes it abundantly clear that he is not speaking for republicans or for democrats. He has stated that he is an independent. If our representatives , of both stripes, were doing their jobs instead of blindly following the blind, cynicism wouldn't prevail.BY Lonni on 10/04/2009 at 10:52
I dont listen to beck either, or watch fox news, i find my own information myself on the web, this way i can verify the information, some goofy stuff is out there, but everything needs to be verified, with multiple sourcesBY ANN on 10/04/2009 at 10:58
The elected GOP is going to throw Glenn Beck under the bus the same way they threw the looney birthers under the bus a few months ago. The GOP silently condoned Beck's wacko behavior the same way they did the birthers.. at least as long as they were useful in attacking Obama. Glenn Beck is promoting a crazy new world order agenda that was concocted decades ago by the crank Cleon Skousen, and intelligent conservatives want no part of that crackpot nonsense.BY Barney on 10/04/2009 at 11:12
at a rally where Lindsay Graham was speaking, the crowd started chanting for "Ron Paul" Lindsay was irked and yelled that Ron Paul wasn't a republican. So really, what makes one a republican?BY Lloyd C on 10/04/2009 at 11:56
Sometimes it's hard to say what you want to say in political blogs. Like my 42 year old son over on the couch with a hood on. According to my wife, "he's havingproblems, so watch what you say it, don't hurt his feelings. All I said was, "Hey man, I heard Metrorail is hiring." Senator Graham's loyalty and dedication to whathe does and has always done for the American people is legendary. If I were a man of Senator Graham's Dignity,I would never have burnt the energy. Beck is trying to out do O'Reily's rightwing sensationalism. In retrospect, it should have been the seperation of the state and themedia; instead of the seperation of state and religion, from a historical perspective. How dare the media to use our elected officials for ulterior motives!BY Edmond on 10/04/2009 at 12:06
Lindsay Graham isn't a real conservative either!!!!!BY Kim on 10/04/2009 at 12:32
McLean, Virginia — The Wing-Nut comments here are excruciatingly funny. Who cares what Glen Beck thinks? Who cares whether he represents the "Republicans"?Both the Democrats and the Republicans are in really deep trouble now, and this nonsense doesn't help anyone. Honestly, it hurts to see the minority party unable to make any cogent and meaningful input. As desperate as we liberal Democrats are for wisdom, it hurts to see a total lack of true debate.BY Paul Matthews on 10/04/2009 at 12:36
Many people care what Glen Becks thinks, his many republican viewers for one, not to mention his network.. The people who watch cares that he represents their point of view. Don't you seeBY Edmond on 10/04/2009 at 13:17
Nice try Lindsay, but it's clear that Glenn Beck works for the Republican party because he's employed by the GOP propaganda network.BY Johnny on 10/04/2009 at 13:33

"Punch will stun West," reads the headline above the fold on Drudge this Tuesday. The line refers to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent, vague promise this week to somehow "punch the arrogance" of the West on February 11. Also above the fold: A slew of weather-related links, including a report from the National Weather Service that predicts more snow for the already buried Capitol.… Read More »

"Healthcare theatrics" reads the banner atop The Huffington Post, which links to an AP story on the White House's struggle to bring GOP leaders to the table for a televised healthcare summit. The AP questions whether the event may have any utility outside of immediate personal politics. Below, reporter Sam Stein reports Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) plans to vote against the White House's nominee for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Craig Becker.… Read More »

Moe Lane this morning summarizes the latest back-and-forth between the White House and congressional GOP leaders over healthcare. The White House wants Republicans to join Democrats for a televised healthcare summit in the coming days, but GOP leaders do not want Democrats' bill to be the basis for those talks. Meanwhile, Brian Darling takes on NYT columnist Paul Krugman's latest piece, in which he rails on the filibuster (and the GOP's use of it). "He is clearly way outside of his area of expertise when talking about Senate procedure, because his analysis is laughable," Darling writes.… Read More »

Spencer Ackerman leads The Washington Independent this morning with a post about William Lietzau, a top Obama White House appointee first installed during President George W. Bush's tenure. Lietzau handled the military commissions the Supreme Court later found unconstitutional, and Ackerman reports that he will soon become Deputy Assistant Secretary for Detainee Affairs.Earlier, David Weigel shared Defense Secretary Robert Gates' thoughts on the passing of Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha (D). Noted Gates: "In our dealings over the years, Jack and I did not always agree, but I always respected his candor, and knew that he cared deeply about the men and women of America’s military and intelligence community." … Read More »

John Aravosis points out that Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) has dropped most of his unprecedented blanket hold on most of the White House's nominees -- except a few defense posts, which remain tied up as Shelby seeks two lucrative military contracts for his home state. Later, Aravosis reports that the Department of Health and Human Services has opened an investigation into the California Blue Cross health insurance program, following reports that premiums there have increased 39 percent recently.… Read More »
