Jindal gets wonky on healthcare
Even Gov. Bobby Jindal's (R-La.) critics would give him credit for being a big time healthcare wonk. (He became secretary of Louisiana's Department of Health and Hospitals when he was 24.)
So it's no surprise that Jindal got fairly specific in a Washington Post op-ed today on healthcare reform.
First, Jindal took a veiled shot at Republicans for failing to offer serious ideas for reform.
"Republicans must shift gears," he wrote. "Conservatives should seize the mantle of reform and lead. Conservatives either genuinely believe that conservative principles will work to solve real-world problems such as health care or they don't. I believe they will."
The potential 2012 presidential candidate then laid out 10 steps for reform, including voluntary purchasing pools, lawsuit reform and a requirement to cover pre-existing conditions.
