Obama to speak at gay rights dinner
President Obama will speak to the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) annual dinner this weekend, the NY Times reports.
The HRC is one of the nation's biggest gay rights organizations.
Obama, of course, has taken heat from LGBT groups for not doing enough to repeal "Don't Asvk, Don't Tell" and for surprisingly supporting the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in court. (DOMA defines marriage at the federal level as between a man and a woman, and lets states ignore same-sex marriages from other states.)
The group will present the Edward M. Kennedy National Leadership award to Dennis and Judy Shepard, parents of Matthew Shepard.
