Two Democratic holdouts on Finance Committee
As the Finance Committee prepares to vote on Max Baucus's healthcare bill this week, at least two committee Democrats are holding out, the Washington Post reports.
Sens. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va) won't commit to voting for the bill. (A few other committee Democrats, including Blanche Lincoln and Bill Nelson, don't seem to be solid yes votes either. But Wyden and Rockefeller seem to be the most skeptical._
Two Democratic "no" votes would be enough to kill the bill if all 10 Republicans vote "no." Then again, Olympia Snowe (R) may vote "yes."
Rockefeller is one of the Senate's biggest proponents of a public option. The committee voted down his proposal to add a public plan to the bill last week, fueling much of his opposition to the legislation.
Wyden, meanwhile, wants more flexibility for individuals who receive insurance through their employers to instead buy their own insurance through the "insurance exchanges" the bill would create.
The committee will likely vote on the bill sometime this week, as soon as the CBO scores the changes made in markup last week.
