DCCC chief shrugs off poll showing 2010 tie
A new Gallup poll showing voters' preferences for Democrats trending downward is of little concern, the chairman of Democrats' 2010 campaign efforts said Wednesday.
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.) suggested that while polls continue to shift, voters have shifted toward an undecided posture in the meanwhile, and not toward Republicans.
"We've seen a lot of polls, and they continue to bounce around," Van Hollen told ABC News's "Top Line" webcast in an interview. "We're going to keep a close eye on these things, and I think what's happening is a lot of people have questions on the way forward, especially on issues like healthcare."
A Gallup poll released this morning shows Democrats and Republicans virtually tied in a generic congressional ballot matchup, which represents a slight boost for the GOP and a slight stumble for Democrats.
Van Hollen denied any trending toward the GOP, though, arguing that one debates over healthcare and climate change have been resolved, voters would begin taking sides.
"They have not gone to the Republican column," the DCCC chairman said. "A lot of people have moved into the undecided column as they see how different debates play out."
"The polls that I've seen have consistently made clear that while there are a lot of undecideds out there...people know that Republicans don't have any solutions," he added.
