Report: Wexler to resign for 'public policy job'
Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.) plans to resign from Congress to "take a public policy job that deals with the Middle East," according to the Palm Beach Sun-Sentinel.
Wexler is set to address his political future in a press conference Wednesday morning, the Palm Beach Post on Politics said Tuesday evening, and may be up for a position within the Obama administration.
The Florida liberal was elected to Congress in 1996, and serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
A call seeking clarification on to Wexler's office Tuesday afternoon on the lawmaker's plans was not returned.
At least one potential candidate, state Sen. Jeremy Ring (D), has signaled he would run in a special election for Wexler's seat should the congressman resign.
