Specter's reelect number at just 31 percent
Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) has got some political problems on his hands.
A new Susquehanna poll shows less than one-third (31 percent) of voters say he deserves a sixth term, while almost twice as many (59 percent) want someone new. His reelect number is down from 38 percent in February.
The poll, like other polling, has Specter near even with former Rep. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) in the general election, leading 42-41, and leading Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) in the primary (44-16). But voters' lack of enthusiasm about Specter has got to be troubling.
The senator's party switch served to completely turn off the right, and the left has been slow to embrace him. His reelect among Democrats is well below 50 percent, at 44 percent, and more Democrats (45 percent) would prefer somebody else.
