VIDEO: Liberal group targets Reid in new ad
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) launched an ad in Nevada urging Sen. Harry Reid to muscle through a public option as part of healthcare reform.
As majority leader, Reid (D-Nev.) is responsible for merging the Senate HELP Committee's legislation with the bill passed by the Finance Committee. A number of leading Senate liberals have publicly urged Reid to include a public plan.
In the ad, a nurse from Nevada describes how her insurance company denied her claim, pushing her family toward bankruptcy.
"In 2010, I'll only be voting on one issue," she says. "I'm watching to see if Harry Reid is strong and effective enough as a leader to pass a public health insurance option into law."
Reid is facing a tough reelection bid, with recent polls show him trailing his possible Republican opponents.
