Grayson: Republicans are 'the enemy of America'

By Jordan Fabian - 10/21/09 05:19 PM ET

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) fired his latest salvo at Republicans on Wednesday evening, calling them "the enemy of America."

The congressman, who gained attention for saying the GOP's health plan is for the ill to "die quickly," made his remark in response to Sen. Lamar Alexander's (R-Tenn.) comment today warning the Obama administration to not draft a Nixonian "enemies list."

Grayson said on MSNBC that the GOP is the enemy of anybody who wants "anything good for this country," including healthcare reform, climate change legislation and "certainly the enemy of peace."

He also took a swipe at Fox News, saying that 99 percent of Americans have the "good sense" not to tune into the network.

Alan Grayson calling any American an "enemy" is eerily similar to ex-Senator Joe McCarthy, who in the early 1950’s denounced alleged communists with similar extreme language. Like Grayson, McCarthy saw enemy's of America everywhere.BY Chris Baker on 10/21/2009 at 19:14
McCarthy, unlike Grayson, was actually right. Most of those accused by McCarthy actually turned out to be communist spies. McCarthy was proven correct after the fall of the Soviet Union.BY Joel Wollin on 10/21/2009 at 19:39
Yeah, but it's true. The Republicans do hate this country and everything it stands for. They are in favor of war, torture, and death. They're a menace.BY Magic Dog on 10/21/2009 at 19:44
Grayson needs to keep speaking up.Chris, where have you been? Under a rock maybe..it is republicans that see enemies of America everywhere except in their own ranks. The repukes are one giant conspiracy theory; No truth.BY Pam on 10/21/2009 at 19:45
Boy this Grayson is a genius. Let's keep him going on msnbc.Let's think of some other good quotes for Grayson. How about this: since Republicans want everyone to die quickly and are directly responsible for 40K death a year by opposing government health care, perhaps we should inter Republicans into re-education camps. After all that would only be humane as they cause so many deaths. What about forced sterilization for Republicans. Frontal lobotomies for Republicans?I'm just so happy we have found such a unifying and compassionate public figure!BY grumpygresh on 10/21/2009 at 20:02
i love it . keep up the good work grayson. finally someone with the balls to give these so and so's a taste of their own medicine. far to long have we suffered the unmitigated gall of the right wing calling all others non amaeican. you folks had your eight years. you messed up so badly but refuse to accept the validity of those that differ with you. tough darts farmer.BY wrschenk on 10/21/2009 at 20:06
Bravo this dude.I was just thinking this same realization this morning.BY Tim Burke on 10/21/2009 at 20:15
YOU have your heads in the sand, oblivious to the goings-on in our own country. You don't care about your fellow citizens- you just want to fight with the opposing party, ignorant to what is happening. You are content to sit back and accept anything everything. Pam, please cite some evidence of your claims. Ditto for you, Joel. All people like you do is attack the Republicans with non-factual, idiotic comments. It's quite hysterical. Grow up start paying attention- for 8 years you have whined, protested and hated. Shut up start supporting your country instead of your stupid party- they are both filled with corruption.BY SB on 10/21/2009 at 20:17
Liberals live in a bizarre world, as a former democrat I can't believe I was ever as blind as today's liberals are. Absolute hatred towards Bush, who, aside from his strong stance on national defense and being pro-life and anti-redefining marriage as it has existed in EVERY civilization since the dawn of history, was a moderate. Bush increased government spending. No Child Left Behind, it was a Ted Kennedy thing, Bush signed on to and promoted. Bush greatly increased domestic spending. Were Bush a democrat and not a republican I doubt the outcry against the war would have been nearly so loud, except from the extreme leftists and the anarchists. Meanwhile Obama has added more unaccountable, unelected "Czars" than any other president. So many of his appointees have been shown to be very radical left wingers, it's frightening. He is trying to radically change our health care system, dramatically increase the size and power of the federal government. He is vilifying one news network for being conservative while saying nothing about MSNBC, CNN, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News and PBS being demonstrably left of center. MSNBC virtually campaigned for him, both from the news desk AND their radically left wing talk shows. None of the stories FOX has run have turned out to be false, and all would have been big news on every other network were they about a republican, yet they weren't even mentioned on other networks until things had gotten so much exposure that they could no longer be ignored. The other networks are biased as much for what they DON'T report as how they spin what they do.BY Rich on 10/21/2009 at 20:46
it's really funny to watch the heads explode after Grayson says something truthful about the Republicans. kind of like their reaction to the Peace prize. it's so fun to watch how they react. the insanity of it, their beliefs, and all that. these nuts are so far out of touch with reality, they are popping all the times.BY Bernard on 10/21/2009 at 21:34
