Barletta likely to challenge Kanjorski again
The Hazleton mayor told a local newspaper that he likes his chances in 2010 better without the presidential race on the ballot.
“Most feel that since Obama will not be on the ticket, I may have a better chance if I run this time,” Barletta said. “I believe that’s true. Obama at the top of that ticket was enough to make the difference.”
A GOP source said Barletta's candidacy in 2010 is "highly likely, and there’s excitement behind his efforts."
Barletta could also benefit from a primary challenge Kanjorski is receiving from Lackawanna County Commissioner Corey O'Brien.
Barletta fell to Kanjorski 52-48 in 2008, which was his
second challenge to the incumbent. Obama won the district with 57 percent.
