Scozzafava a distant third in fundraising
Attorney Bill Owens’s (D) $491,000 raised in his pre-election filing far outpaced Republican state Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava’s $234,000 and Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman’s $205,000.
But Hoffman self-funded $102,000 and has also reportedly seen donations take off over the last week, with more than $200,000 raised online, and Owens’s numbers don’t include a fundraiser President Barack Obama appeared at for him last week in New York City.
That appears to leave Scozzafava a distant third in the money chase, and she has also dropped sharply in the polls, from being the early front-runner to running four points behind Owens in the latest Siena survey.
Owens also leads in cash on hand as of the Oct. 14 cutoff, with $128,000 in the bank, compared to $73,000 for Hoffman and just $41,000 for Scozzafava.
