Levin: Cheney 'totally out of bounds,' has no cred left
Senate Armed Services Committee chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) said Sunday that former Vice President Dick Cheney was "totally out of bounds" for accusing the Obama administration of "dithering" on a decision on Afghanistan strategy.
"Having announced his Afghanistan strategy last March, President Obama
now seems afraid to make a decision, and unable to provide his
commander on the ground with the troops he needs to complete his
mission," Cheney said Wednesday night during a speech at the Center for
Security Policy.
"It’s time for President Obama to make good on
his promise," the former vice president added. "The White House must
stop dithering while America’s armed forces are in danger."
On "Fox News Sunday," Levin slammed Cheney for those comments. "I don't think he has any credibility left with the American people," the senator said.
Levin, who supports the administration taking its time to reach a decision by weighing the recommendations of Gen. Stanley McChrystal and other factors, noted that it took President George W. Bush three months to decide on the Iraq surge and that Bush ended up bucking the recommendations of Gen. Geoge Casey.
"I think history will show that Bush made the right decision," Levin said.
