RNC unveils Spanish ad questioning Obama, Biden trips to Florida
The Republican National Committee (RNC) on Monday released a radio ad going after the administration for its fundraisers in Florida this week.
Several weeks after the RNC released a statement for Spanish Heritage Month that included a number of errors, the RNC released a 60-second ad targeting President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for Miami-area fundraisers.
"Miami welcomes President Obama and Vice President Biden to our city. Since you’re spending a lot of your time raising campaign dollars instead of meeting with us, we have some questions for you," the ad says in its English translation, before going on to question Obama and Biden on job creation, health reform and ballooning federal spending.
Obama will be in Miami on Monday night for a fundraiser for Democrats' House and Senate campaign committees, while Biden will appear at functions in Miami and West Palm Beach on Thursday.
The new ad takes specific aim at the scores of Spanish-language voters in Florida, especially many Cuban-Americans, who have traditionally been more supportive of the GOP than have other Hispanic communities in the U.S.
"Despite the jam-packed fundraising schedule the president and vice president have during their Miami visit, they should find some time to explain to Florida’s Hispanic-Americans the real consequences that the Democrats’ plan will have on their community," RNC Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement accompanying the ad. "While Democrat leaders in Congress continue negotiations on a final healthcare bill in secret and behind closed doors, Americans deserve answers to their questions."
