Rep. Grayson calls lobbyist 'K street whore' on radio

By Eric Zimmermann - 10/27/09 09:34 AM ET

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) is under fire for calling a female lobbyist a "K street whore" in an interview recently aired on the radio.

Speaking on the Alex Jones radio show, Grayson lashed out at Linda Robertson, a lobbyist fighting against Grayson's effort to audit the Federal Reserve.

"This lobbyist, this K Street whore, is trying to teach me about economics," Grayson said, noting that he himself had worked as an economist.

Grayson's spokesman defended the remarks.

"She attacked the congressman and his efforts to promote a Republican bill to audit the Federal Reserve. She actually questioned his understanding of the difference between fiscal and monetary policy," Todd Jurkowski told The Orlando Sentinel. "This is [a] person who used to be the chief lobbyist for Enron attacking the intelligence and motives of a congressman who used to be an economist."

Grayson's comments drew a swift rebuke from Republicans.

"Alan Grayson is a vile and vulgar man whose behavior brings shame to Central Florida on a near-daily basis," said Andy Sere, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC.)

"His continued insistence on belittling an accomplished woman with such an insulting remark is final confirmation — as if it was needed — that he has no business near the United States Congress or any other position of public trust."

Grayson recently made headlines when he said the GOP healthcare plan was for sick people to "die quickly."

The "whore" comment comes about 1:45 into the audio clip below:

so now you can't call someone a whore simply because she is female. would have been okay if the lobbyist was male. the so-called GOP is a fading anachronismBY rawillis3 on 10/27/2009 at 11:53
no, you can't call a female a whore if you are a republican. it's perfectly acceptable if you are a democrat.Stink Eye Blog/ForumBY Stan in FL on 10/27/2009 at 12:06
Grayson is clearly brash, but he tells it like it is. The funny thing is that he is acting like some of the GOP's most outrageous representatives , with one exception - he's telling the truth.BY tammster on 10/27/2009 at 12:16
Grayson's he is a idiot. That man needs to be voted out. What is with all of them. They want us to keep our months shut.BY A Dale on 10/27/2009 at 12:24

More Democratic civility? Grayson is a loose cannon at best.BY Humphster on 10/27/2009 at 12:37
Tammster…Oh please, you can tell any politician is being untruthful if their lips are moving…Grayson is no exception. His 15 minutes of fame are about up, in my view.BY CodeWarrior on 10/27/2009 at 12:40
If you are a lobbyist, your a whore! Grayson is probably the only repub telling the truth.BY Mike on 10/27/2009 at 12:40
Go Grayson!! Radio personalities can lie. TV entertainers can make outragious statements. And the Right wants civility. The "Party of No" is speeding down a dead end street and they want civility.BY Charles on 10/27/2009 at 12:54
@ Mike, not sure if you are aware but Grayson is a Democrat.Grayson is a disgrace. For someone whom claims to be so great and intelligent, you would think he would be more articulate in speaking to the public. He is just another clown in Congress whom will be a nobody in another 6 months!BY Debi on 10/27/2009 at 12:56
