Senate Republicans are like the girl that gave Harry Reid the cold shoulder in high school, the majority leader said today.
Asked whether he's still working to get Republican support for a healthcare bill, Reid said that Republicans simply aren't willing to cooperate.
"You can't dance if your partner is unwilling to get off the chair," Reid told reporters. "It's like when I was in high school, I wanted to dance but she wouldn't get up. OK?"
Now that Sen. Joe Lieberman has announced he won't vote for cloture on a bill with a public option, Reid will need at least one Republican vote to end debate.
But the majority leader said he wasn't worried about Lieberman's defection.
"We will work with us when this gets on the floor, and I'm sure
he'll have some interesting things to do in the way of an amendment.
But Joe Lieberman is the least of Harry Reid's problems," Reid said.
