Baucus: A 'massive, massive' bill

By Eric Zimmermann - 10/27/09 02:14 PM ET

Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) wants you to know just how huge the healthcare reform bill is.

"This is so massive," Baucus told reporters today. "It is so complicated."

Baucus was trying to emphasize that the public option is just one part of an overwhelmingly large bill, but his comments echo GOP concerns about the scope of healthcare reform.

Baucus emphasized his point a number of times.

"This is a massive, massive bill...So I just caution all of us to remember just how big this bill is," he said.

So this means we should have 1 hour of debate before a full Senate vote, right?BY JT on 10/27/2009 at 15:41
Massive bill, massive cost, = massive debt and massive opportunities for corruption and fraud. If the gov't programs that are already rife with fraud and corruption can;t get it under control( despite the current admin's optomistic claims), then how will they manage to prevent the same kinds of corruption and fraud from permeating this new spendthrift program? Answer: They won't, but they will start collecting the money to fund the program right away while delaying the actual delivery of any service at all years down the road. Why are so many voters so stupid? Answer: they aren't, they just believe the lies of politicians.BY Dave Esser on 10/27/2009 at 16:37
and we should not post it, because - really - who's going to read it anyways? and do we really need to knw the details, when they're just going to change it in the dark again?BY suze on 10/27/2009 at 16:49
If we allow even one of these rich, hypocritical, gluttonous, corrupt men or women to serve another term we are not stupid, we are crazy. I am keeping a list of those who are going against what WE, THE PEOPLE, want. I suggest everyone do the same.BY Jerrilyn on 10/27/2009 at 17:07
We need at least one hour of debate per page number of the bill.BY Sheri on 10/27/2009 at 17:25
I agree with Sheri but would be happy with a minimum of 15 minutes per page.BY jaa on 10/27/2009 at 17:57
Massive and complicated?? Lets see, A small army of K-Streeters ,each with a coupla hundred pages of THEIR CLIENTS requests sloppily blended WITH OTHER CLIENTS requests?/ HOW could you NOT be Massive and complicated?? Let's see. COPY the Govt. heathcare plan VERBAiTUM!!! or FIX medicare/medicaid once and for all!!AND / Or go after COST CONTAINMENT as priority #1!! such as eliminating borders and zones of NO real competion by making ALL providers Compete instead of adding just one competitor to a rigged deal. Tort Reform ;Defensive Medicine and BIG Pharma price fixing Are ALL costs that are now UNcontained!!BY GRO on 10/27/2009 at 18:03
Everything Obama has done has been massive. Massive debt!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! The bill should not be voted on until every rep., sen. the pres. can vow under penalty of law that they have read every word, after all this is supposed to be a representative government. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that all of them can read, can you imagine Robert Byrd reading the bill between naps.BY chiefbuffalo on 10/27/2009 at 19:38
Typical liberal tactic of obfuscation…write so much nonsense in the bill that, and by sheer volume alone, it will diminsh the real problematic parts of the legislation that people will find a problem with!BY Hank on 10/27/2009 at 22:15
I think we can safely file Baucus's brilliant observation in the "No S***?" folder. The revolution won't come soon enough, will it?BY MarkJ on 10/27/2009 at 22:20
