Steele stands by embattled Scozzafava

By Aaron Blake - 10/28/09 09:38 AM ET

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele stuck by Republican special election candidate Dede Scozzafava in an interview on MSNBC's Morning Joe on Wednesday.

“I support the Republican nominee as the Republican Party chairman, and that’s the way it should go, right?” Steele said in a light-hearted exchange (video at about 5 minues in).

Steele has seen several members of Congress and big-name Republicans not, in fact, support the GOP nominee. This week, Reps. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) and former NRCC Chairman Tom Cole (R-Okla.) have joined the ranks of defectors opting for Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

Please chairman Steele, be quiet.BY bjmawmaw on 10/28/2009 at 11:00
There was no primary selecting a Republican candidate so Dede Scozzafava is not a legitimate candidate.BY Doug on 10/28/2009 at 11:30
Chairman Steele, I'm a fan of yours and stuck by you during your missteps early in your Chairmanship. At some point, you and Gingrich are going to have to salvage this election by admitting that Scozzfava cannot win and throwing your support to Hoffman. It's that simple.BY AngelEyesGBU on 10/28/2009 at 11:36
Steele is not only a RINO but also a Cathoic in name only..his candidate - Dede - has been endorsed by pro abortion Planned Parenthood, received the Margaret Sanger Award, is for gay marriage…is, in fact, a radical, left wing democrate…Steele should have been removed from his leadership post a long time ago…maybe now it will happen…shame on Steele and Newt…BY Sam on 10/28/2009 at 11:36
Scozzaffava has suspended her ridiculous campaign, message to Steele…loose the arrogance and gain intelligence!BY Shyron M. Beavers on 10/28/2009 at 11:43
The Republican Party establishment still doesn't get it. They talk about getting back to their core principles but it appears that their most important core principle is simply getting elected by whatever means they deem necessary. Sarah Palin may be lacking as far as qualifications for high office are concerned but at least she is willing to go RINO hunting. May Hoffman win and give both Steele and Gingrich black eyes.BY Bill on 10/28/2009 at 11:44
The RNC should NOT support ANY candidates who are not conservative. The Republican Party needs NO MORE RINOS!!!BY Jay Davis on 10/28/2009 at 12:19
I have always liked and respected Michael Steele and Newt Gingrich but they are just plain WRONG on the RINO they are supporting. Scozzafava endorses Card Check because her husband is a Union big wheel, she endorses taxpayer funded abortions, she voted for the bogus "Stimulus" and marches in lock step with the Obamabots. I will not be sending any more money to the GOP for a while. Maybe a very long while.BY Sunnyr on 10/28/2009 at 12:31
The Republican Party left we conservatives behind ten years ago. I can't tell if it is ignorance, arrogance or Beltway-itis. It's even more incredible that they still don't get it.BY Marty Conrad on 10/28/2009 at 13:32
Did Dede suspend her campaign?BY Bob on 10/28/2009 at 13:55
