Could Burris join a GOP filibuster?

Might Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) join the GOP in filibustering healthcare reform?

Via First Read comes word that Burris pledged today that he "will only vote for a bill with a strong public option," a vague but nevertheless troubling phrase for the Democratic leadership.

One would assume that an opt-out doesn't count as a "strong public option." But when Burris says "vote for," does that include voting on a cloture motion, or just on the bill itself?

I have long thought that Burris could be a hero. It was premataure and cruel for the press to pile on him without any knowledge of who he is or what he stands for.I hope Burris follows his heart and head and not the worn out shills he is surrounded by.This is definitely the right thing to do if you care about Americans more than your party position.BY tropicgirl on 11/03/2009 at 12:10
