Conservative group talks of bloggers 'turning guns' on Jarrett
A fiscally conservative group suffered from arguably poor word choice on Tuesday in an email to reporters touting bloggers "turning guns" toward a top White House adviser.
An email from Americans for Limited Government referenced an alleged growing discord between conservative bloggers toward senior White House aide Valerie Jarrett, which the email said was due to her past business deals and "radical mindset."
Adam Bitely, the executive director of NetRightNation.com whose words are featured heavily in the release, said the words were not intended to invoke violence.
"Conservative bloggers nationwide have begun turning their attention to top Obama aide Valerie Jarrett in recent days in what one top blogging expert says, 'could send shock waves through the entire Obama Administration,'" the opening to the press release said.
"In no way did I mean actual guns that would shoot bullets," Bitely said in response to an inquiry about the release.
"I thought people would understand it to turn attention," Bitely added. "In no way to we wish any violence against Valerie Jarrett, and I would not condone any acts of violence in any shape or form against Valerie Jarrett."
Jarrett, one of the most senior African-American advisors to President Barack Obama, has long been a personal friend to the president and his family.
Her close relationship with the president was the subject of a New York Times Magazine piece earlier this year, in which she was called "the ultimate Obama insider."
