AP: AARP will endorse healthcare legislation

By Eric Zimmermann - 11/04/09 03:25 PM ET

The AARP will endorse the House Democrats' healthcare bill, the Associated Press is reporting.

Officials with knowledge of the group's decision told The Associate Press on Wednesday that the senior's lobby has decided to give the $1.2 trillion measure its seal of approval. An announcement is expected Thursday. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement has not been made.

If true, the endorsement would be a nice reassurance for Democrats nervous about what a healthcare vote would do to their 2010 re-election chances. The AARP represents the country's most likely voters: serniors.

aarp needs to be shut down, they are not i repeat not the voice of seniors, they only obama puppets,BY dan on 11/04/2009 at 15:51
I agree with Dan! BUT REMEMBER ALL YOU Congresspeople voting for this…You definately will NOT get my vote or friends and I will do my best to get in touch with more people. JUST because some Lobbyists have caved in to AARP sure DOES NOT MEAN THAT ALL SENIORS WANT THIS AWFUL HEALTHCARE PLAN ON TOP OF WHICH IT ONLY STEALS FROM MEDICARE TO INSURE UNINSURED…REALLY MAKES SENSE. YOU REALLY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED. no vOTE FOR ANY OF YOU.BY Journe on 11/04/2009 at 16:05
when arrp mucked up the drug bill I canceled my arrp, now folks the rest of you need to cancel your subscriptions to this ACORN type organizationBY jake2 on 11/04/2009 at 16:05
So Dan, they should be shut down because they support aspects of the Obama administrations policies? Nice. They're America's biggest membership organization. Noone is forced to join them. I thought right-wingers were meant to believe in the market?BY tomjd on 11/04/2009 at 16:14
Well, AARP. How much filthy lucre is in this health care debacle for you? Just follow the dollar people.BY USA on 11/04/2009 at 16:15
Cancelled my subscription. In AZ Obama proposes dropping the Advantage health plan but it so happens AARP has their own plan to introduce. But at what cost??????????BY Corley O on 11/04/2009 at 16:27
How about $652 million reasons in 2008. http://www.gop.gov/policy-news/09/09/22/aarp-helping-seniors-or-helping If you dont like that link, here's one from the waposthttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/26/AR2009102603392.htmlBY fred on 11/04/2009 at 17:10
Too little too late. They finally realized it is a giveaway for the insurance companies, but now both sides want to kill it with those cuts in Medicare and the other junk.BY tropicgirl on 11/04/2009 at 17:52
Please give the phone number needed to cancel my AARP subscription, I do not like their stand on the Democrat healthcare plan.BY Rodger on 11/04/2009 at 19:48
AARP is an insurance company, first and foremost. They want Obamacare to pass because inadequate medicare coverage ensures the sale of more supplemental insurance policies for them. They do not represent seniors. They will lose millions of seniors over this.BY Patient Advocate on 11/04/2009 at 20:15
